"I love books because they can place me in new worlds and experiences, allowing me to escape reality whenever I want to." - Melissa Sharman
Date of Birth: 20 February 1986, Prattville, Alabama

Melissa was raised in the small, but growing town of Prattville, located in central Alabama. The majority of her life was spent with her father David and stepmother Karen as well as her twin sister Jennifer and two brothers, Mike and Trey on three acres of land just inside the city limits. There, she grew up being a tomboy, raising all sorts of farm animals. Her other interests at the time were drawing, reading, writing short stories, and playing video games.
It was at the early age of seven when Melissa fell in love with chapter books. Her first was Emelia Earhart. It gave her the inspiration to write her own stories. When Melissa turned nine and was attending Prattville Elementary School, she wrote her first book. It was called The Haunted House and was inspired from an abandoned log cabin on the Alabama River. Her teacher made her read it to the class three times. It was a sign, her calling to continue to write. In fourth grade, Melissa wrote a series of short stories, all inspired from her childhood, which she still has in her possession today.
In January of 2000, Melissa awoke from a strange dream. It stuck with her for the rest of the day as she continued to think about the main character, herself, as she explored an underworld while carrying a necklace with a crystal embedded in it. Something was lying below a town, something big...That evening, she told her sister, Jennifer. She was excited and told Melissa that she should write it. Melissa thought about it for a few days. She was having to make a big decision in her life at the time, and she eventually did on January 17th, 2000 when she left Prattville and moved to Moody to be with her mother. That night, she put her series to the side and started on this project that would take fourteen years to officially complete.
The Legend of Wahkan is a story that has been hidden for many years, and is now available to everyone! Find your copy at Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble.
